Another Award Coming For Bucs Skipper Clint Hurdle

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Clint Hurdle is already the National League Manager of the Year, but even more awards are coming his way.

The Chuck Tanner awards banquet is this Saturday and Michael Smith is the man behind the scenes of the banquet. He joined Larry and John to give the details about this year's awards.

The banquet is put on by the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. Smith says the event honors the memory of Chuck Tanner, who managed the Pirates to a world championship in 1979. The awards are given to people who "emulate the passion and the commitment of the game, both on and off the field."

Smith couldn't be happier that Clint Hurdle was selected as the National League Manager of the Year. He will receive the  Chuck Tanner Major League Baseball Manager of the Year Award at the banquet this Saturday night.

Another award is the Chuck Tanner Memorial Award, which is given to the person, "who has been outstanding in the promotion and advancement in Pirates baseball for the past year." This year's award goes to Bob Nutting. The Lifetime Achievement award will be presented to former Pirates pitcher Kent Tekulve.

The 2013 Chuck Tanner Awards Banquet is this Saturday at the Rivers club in Pittsburgh. Smith says that the funds go to "the Rotary club of Pittsburgh."
