Police: Teen Arrested, Charged In Brashear H.S. Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have charged a 16-year-old as an adult in a shooting near Brashear High School that left three teenagers injured just as school was letting out for the day on Wednesday afternoon.

According to sources, 16-year-old Anjohnito (A.J.) Willet, Jr., was brought in for questioning after being found at the home next door to his parents' house on Rockland Avenue in Beechview a short time after the shots were fired.

Willet is facing several charges, including four counts each of criminal attempt homicide and aggravated assault, as well as a minor not to possess a firearm charge.

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti Reports:

Pittsburgh Police Lt. Kevin Kraus told a late evening news conference that Willet was the lone gunman who wounded the three students.

"We believe with the information and the evidence that we have, that we have the one and only shooter, but the investigation is not over," said Lt. Kevin Kraus, of Pittsburgh Police. "It's still very active and ongoing."

A fourth teen who was with the other three was shot at, but was not hit.

Lt. Kraus said Willet is being charged as an adult.

This shooting may go back to a robbery on Oct. 18.

Police say the shooting outside of the high school was the result of Willet being robbed at school last month by the same students who he fired at.

He didn't want to file a report on last month's robbery, Lt. Kraus told reporters, rather "he took matters into his own hands."

The shooting happened outside of Brashear High School around 3 p.m.

Three male students were shot and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

None are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

While witnesses said they saw several gunmen, Lt. Kraus said investigators are certain Willet was the only one who fired as many as eight shots.

Police also brought five males and one female in for questioning.

A baby was also taken from the home where Willet was found.

Meanwhile, police were on the scene at Rockland Avenue into the evening as they waited for a search warrant to go into the home.
