Uniontown Man Charged In Death Of His 20-Month-Old Daughter

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- State Police in Fayette County say a child abuse case that ended in the death of a toddler is taking an emotional toll on investigators.

Domer Burkholder, Jr., 30, of Uniontown, is charged with criminal homicide and child endangerment in the death of his 20-month-old daughter, Kaylee Jo Burkholder.

According to state police, Burkholder is accused of striking the child in the abdomen Thursday evening.

Authorities say it happened at the Holiday Mobile Home Park in North Union Township.

The Fayette County District Attorney says Burkholder's three other children and some other family members were around at the time of the alleged abuse.

The toddler suffered severe internal injuries including a lacerated liver.

The suspect's brother says he alerted Children, Youth and Family Services two weeks ago that something was wrong.

"If he did this, he deserves to be in jail," said Robert Burkholder, the suspect's brother. "I love him to death, he is my brother, but if he did this he deserves to spend the rest of his days in jail."

The little girl was taken to Uniontown Hospital, and then transferred to Children's Hospital where she died from her injuries on Friday afternoon.

Doctors from the Uniontown Hospital emergency room contacted state police.

Burkholder was arraigned Friday night and then taken to jail.

The investigation continues.
