Magical Macy's Windows To Dazzle, Delight On Light Up Night

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh will glow this Friday evening for Light Up Night.

The Winter Wonderland starts early at the Macy's Downtown department store.

The former Kaufmann's building has 22 display windows, more than any other Macy's in the country.

While the enchanting window displays will be revealed to all on Light Up Night, KDKA's Dave Crawley got a sneak peek from Liza Zwirn, the visual manager of Macy's windows.

"People came down here. They came down as kids with their parents, and now they bring their kids, and then the grandparents come. People love the animated windows in Pittsburgh," Zwirn says.

Visual staffer Jeff Hawk has created winter scenes in Macy's Windows for 30 years.

"It's all about getting the lights and the colors into the space so people can get excited about it," Hawk says.

There are six large display windows, this year each with a Pittsburgh theme.

Zwirn says this year is the 100th anniversary of the Kaufmann's Clock.

"We're celebrating the 100th anniversary of the clock and the phrase 'Meet me under the Clock.' It's another one of our Pittsburgh traditions," she says.

And under the Clock is the perfect place to be when the windows are revealed.
