Thousands Fill Downtown For Light Up Night

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Thousands of people filled downtown Friday night for Light Up Night.

Gloria Gaynor sang "I will survive outside the Macy's downtown and the crowd loved it. They also loved Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle talking about what we've asked Santa for.

"How many of you last year said to Santa, 'All I want for Christmas is a winning season for the Bucs?'" he asked.

And speaking of Santa, he led the countdown to unveil the famous Macy's holiday windows.

From horse-drawn carriage rides, to the beautiful downtown skyline all lit up, most people had a good time.

Stayce Williams says going to Light Up Night is part of carrying on the tradition from when she was a child.

"My grandmother used to bring me down here every year, it was a tradition for me," she said.

In Market Square, Kimberly Gill and David Highfield had the honored task of introducing Santa Claus for another countdown.

Michael Gonzalez from Ellwood City brought his daughters to take in all the sights.

"The girls have been looking forward to this all week," he said. "We brought them down, it's been fantastic. Great weather, good thing the rain stopped."

Unlike some years past, there were no reported major incidents or crime happening downtown.
