Chase Suspect Nearly Drowns After Jumping Into River

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A driver, who police say nearly drowned after running into the river, is now facing charges after a chase and crash at the intersection of Corliss and Carson in the West End.

It started when a Pittsburgh Police Zone 6 officer tried to pull over a driver who passed a school bus on Chartiers Avenue.

That driver, Ryan Brown of Mount Washington, then slammed into two other vehicles, causing the pick-up truck to land right on top of another car.

Investigators say Brown bailed and ran into the river, nearly drowning before officers could reach him.

He was taken to Mercy Hospital, and then later charged.

A female passenger in the car was also transported. Her injuries are not serious.

Brown had three outstanding warrants for aggravated assault.
