Pens GM Wants Letang To "Simplify" His Game

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Penguins General Manager Ray Shero sat down for a one-on-one interview with Joe Starkey of Starkey, Miller and Mueller and talked about the performance of Kris Letang so far this year.

"I don't think Kris has played near the top of his game at this point which is okay," Shero said.  "He is a very talented defenseman as we know, great skill, but you see an Erik Karlsson play, they got tremendous skill, they try to do a little too much, it's one of those things that they need to simplify their game. Kris, to me, is a very good defensive defenseman when he wants to do that and simplify his game, and sometimes you try to take on a little too much."

Shero also assessed the play of his team as a whole 25 games into the season and what he makes of it.

"I like our defense, I like the depth we have on defense," Shero stated.  "I like the way our goaltending has actually played.  Marc (Andre-Fleury) of course a lot of question marks coming back from the playoffs. I think the question mark coming into our season, which hasn't been answered yet, was kind of our depth on the third line."

Shero also discussed the Hall of Fame induction speech he gave for his late father as well as the backup goalie situation with Jeff Zatkoff.
