Burgh Blogger Spreads Christmas Cheer

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - 'Tis the season for acts of kindness and good deeds, and one mother is taking that thought as far as she can.

Blogger Mom Michelle is entering her fifth year for Christmas Crazy for Kids. The fund aims to provide many local children with a very Merry Christmas. Their first year, 2009, brought in over $1,000 in gift cards and a half of a bus stuffed with toys.

"The goal is to make sure we really take care of the kids," said Michelle. "Not that token gift that the poor kids get from someone who drew their name off of a tree and found a $5 doll in the clearance bin and decided to give it to them."

Last year the fund brought in a total value of $10,000. That price included toys, books, gift cards and clothing.

Because of her love for decorating and lights, she has brightened up her home with 13 trees this holiday season.

She jokes that the trees only count if they're over three-feet tall.

"Sometimes we can get a list from the kids who are staying in a shelter, but most of the children come Christmas Eve because something has disrupted their holiday," said Michelle. "So there's no way to know what they'll need or want, so we just try to buy good gifts for different age groups, different backgrounds and ethnicity."
