Police: Mother Driving Drunk With Large Knives, Kids In Car

WASHINGTON COUNTY (KDKA) – Peters Township police say they arrested a mother for driving drunk with her two children in the backseat.

Put what alarmed police even more, was the large kitchen knives they also found in the car.

Peters Township police noticed 32-year-old Elizabeth Burwell driving drunk, crossing the double yellow lines four times.

"When he went to slow down for a set of railroad tracks, he says she almost hit him," Peters Township Police Chief Harry Freucht said.

When an officer pulled her over, he says he noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the car.

Police say then Burwell drove off, and they were forced again to pull her over.

That's when the officer noticed two large kitchen knives in the car, and was forced to pull her out of the car.

Police say she resisted arrest.

Her four, and six-year-old kids were in the backseat during the incident, and were not harmed.

Burrell is charged with endangering the welfare of children, resisting arrest, and DUI.
