Annual PirateFest Set To Get Underway

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Last year was the first time in a long time Pirates players and fans had something to be proud of. Sights are set on even more success for the 2014 season. The hype and excitement start this weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center as PirateFest gets underway.

The voice of the Pirates, Greg Brown, provided the soundtrack to the unforgettable season and he joined Larry Richert and John Shumway to talk about the fun of last year, the high hopes for next year, and PirateFest.

Brown says fans come up and tell him how happy they are for him after being with the Pirates for so long. He turns it around and tells them, "how happy I am for them because so many Pirates fans have stuck by this team through thick and thin and they were rewarded last year." He says everyone is already pumped up for the 2014 season. "That's what we've been hearing all week, about how much fun it was to watch these guys play, how excited they are already."

Brown says he anticipates a large crowd over the 2 day all things Bucs celebration. Brown says there is plenty for fans to do and explains what he is looking forward to. "A bunch of former and currently players are going to be there. I'm looking forward to the 1979 Q and A session," to reminisce about the "We Are Family" team.

One of the biggest stories is the engagement of Andrew McCutchen that happened earlier this week on the "Ellen" show and Cutch will be at PirateFest. Brown expects McCutchen will field quite a few questions about the engagement. He says thats what the players have been talking about on the annual Pirates Caravan. He says the players say, "he's set the bar too high."

PirateFest is this weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Listen to Larry Richert and John Shumway every weekday from 5 to 9am on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.
