Girl Injured While Jumping From Vehicle Rolling Into Creek

PENN HILLS (KDKA) - Emergency crews were called to the scene of an accident where a girl's leg was run over by a car Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident happened on Hulton Road in Penn Hills.

The 15-year-old girl, identified by family as Haley Stefancis, was in the vehicle with her mom in the driveway. Haley's mom, Carol, dropped a cell phone and got out of the vehicle to pick it up, while thinking the vehicle was in park.

However, the vehicle was not in park and began to roll with the girl inside.

"She got out of the car because her phone fell and was lying in the snow," said Bob Russ, Haley's grandfathers. "So, she got out to get it and she thought she put it in park, but it wasn't in park and it drifted down the driveway."

At that time, the girl jumped out of the car and it ran over her right leg.

"My granddaughter jumped out of the car before it went in the creek, and it ran over her one leg when she fell," said Russ.

The car continued to roll and struck a gas meter before coming to rest in a creek.

The girl was taken to Forbes Regional Hospital with a leg injury. She was treated and released a short time later.

Firefighters and the gas company responded to the scene and were able to stop the gas leak.
