1 Dead, 1 Arrested After Duquesne Heights Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One person is dead and another arrested after three cars crashed in Duquesne Heights Sunday night.

According to police, the accident happened around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Route 51 and Woodruff Street.

A car driving erratically while northbound on Route 51 crossed the center line and hit an SUV head-on. One adult and three children were inside the SUV.

A third car was also damaged in the accident.

Witnesses say he was arguing with a woman in his car both verbally and physically at the time of the crash.

The man was arrested on suspicion of DUI and has not been identified. However, the woman fled the scene.

"I honestly could not believe it. It happened literally at the snap of a finger. We ran down there and we saw nothing but smoke coming from the back end of the car. I got down there and saw my mom with the little girls and saw blood on them and I just started freaking out. I could not believe it. So close to Christmas and these girls have to deal with this and all because some guy just wanted to take a joy ride out. That's not right," Demitrios Gosser said.

The adult in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as James Posey, 60, of Pittsburgh.

Three young girls in Posey's SUV were rushed to Children's Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Route 51 between Woodruff Street and the Parkway reopened around 4 a.m.
