Woman Accused Of Stealing Credit Cards In Movie Theater, Spending $6K

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A woman is accused of spending thousands of dollars at several stores in Cranberry Township with a stolen credit card.

She spent $2,000 at Best Buy, $2,100 at Target and more than $1,000 at TJ Maxx. They're charges a Marshall Township woman says she never made.

"I want people to be aware of what's going on because this is totally unacceptable and I'm very upset with these people," said the woman who did not want to be identified.

The fraud victim says the real-life Grinch stole four of her credit cards while watching a movie at the Cranberry Cinemas.

The thief is described as a heavy set African American woman, who sat behind the victim and her son, then waited until the movie started.

She then carefully created a distraction reaching into the woman's purse sitting in the chair next to her.

"She was trying to move around and she kept bumping the chair and you just think that's annoying or someone's going outside to get a drink or something," said the victim.

The woman left the theater, took the cards and then went back into the theater and put the empty walled back in the woman's purse before going on a three-hour spending spree.

The victim says she's surprised no one questioned the thief when she tried to use the cards, because of the message she put on the back in an effort to protect herself.

"I had put in the signature code, 'See ID,' and obviously did not get looked at or just got blown off," she said.

She's hoping surveillance video from all three stores helps catch the woman and possibly accomplices.
