2013: Year Of The Duck

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- New Year's Day has ushered in 2014, but there's still time for a final ode to the year that was. Here's a look back at the year of the duck, and a lot more!

He sailed up the river, this fowl so fair,
And passed under bridges with inches to spar.
Photographers flocked to take photos, with pluck.
That bird fit the bill, in the Year of the Duck.

And speaking of moments worthy of mention,
The Furries were back for a shaggy convention.
A cat in Squirrel Hill, in a tree for a week,
Was saved, as he offered a gratified squeak.

The Fort Pitt cannon, one bright summer morn.
Appropriate. "This is where Pittsburgh was born."
A hundred year landmark is just down the block.
"I said, Let's meet under the clock."

Yarn bombing artists were careful, while placing.
"We cover parts of the tower facing."
The Dormont pool was filled to the brim.
"Once you take him in, he'll swim."

Andrew McCutchen made everyone glow.
He proposed on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
But his team put opponents down to their knees.
The Bucs had a season that's certain to please.

For twenty long years, they labored in vain,
But this year's achievement has ended the pain.
Fans of the Buccos were living a dream
"We won't give up on our home team."

Bruno Sammartino the name.
Entered Pro Wrestling's Hall of Fame.
As a child, he says, he was skinny and meek.
But now: "I train three days a week."

Two sisters, adopted, are now reunited.
The pair is excited. Ecstatic. Delighted.
And a North Hills woman is clearly aglow,
With a kidney from someone that she didn't know.

Perseverance wins out, with a small dose of luck,
Which one might expect in the Year of the Duck.
