Local Band Hoping To Win Chance Of A Lifetime At Grammys

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- A Pittsburgh band called Lovebettie has had gigs from Wisconsin to Texas, and points in between.

Founded by lead singer Alexandra Naples and guitarist C. T. Fields of Greensburg, their music defies labeling.

"People would always ask us what kind of genre we were," says the singer. "What kind of music do you play? And it became a real mouthful, saying, 'Oh well, it's rock but it's soulful, funky and sometime pop."

So they coined a new genre called Swagger Rock. There's plenty to swagger about.

Rolling Stone magazine named Lovebettie one of its Bands to Watch.

"We got nominated to play the Grammy Gig of a Lifetime, which is a really awesome opportunity," Andrea Naples says. "They fly you out to L.A., and you'll get to play at the Nokia Club."

Fans are voting on the web to determine which band will for top executives in the music industry.

Final question. Any deep meaning behind the group name Lovebettie?

"Wrote down a bunch of words on a piece of paper, put the names in a hat," Naples says. "Pulled them out two by two, and Lovebettie is the only one everybody agreed on."
