NEW CASTLE (KDKA) — Police in Lawrence County are searching for a suspect following an armed bank robbery this afternoon in New Castle.

Authorities say the robbery happened just before noon at the First Merit Bank in the 3200-block of Wilmington Road.

According to Neshannock Township Police, the suspect walked up to a teller and handed over a note that said, “Give me the money. I have a gun.”

The teller gave him money and then the suspect ran out and got away on foot, heading southbound through the parking lots, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male, about six-feet-two-inches tall, in his mid-20s with a thin to medium build and light facial hair.

He was wearing a gray, zip-up hoodie, blue jeans, boots and a blue stocking cap.

Authorities have not released how much money he got away with.

State Police and the FBI were also called to the scene.
