Analyst Gerry DiNardo: Franklin's Work At Vanderbilt is 'Extraordinary'

PITTSBURGH-(93-7 The Fan)- Former head coach and current Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo joined the "Cook and Poni Show" on Wednesday to discuss the latest on the Penn State coaching search.

The search for a new head coach at Penn State continues and Vanderbilt's James Franklin appears to be the frontrunner to replace Bill O'Brien.

DiNardo was a former head coach at Vandy where Franklin currently resides and he calls what Franklin has been able to do on the filed at that academic institution is remarkable.

"Extraordinary," DiNardo said. "I know that record says something about the coach he is."

Is he the right guy for Penn State? DiNardo says he is not sure, but he appears to be a guy who really wants to be there and a guy who could really keep Penn State moving in the right direction.

DiNardo says that Penn State is so far ahead of where he thought they would be after the first two years of probation.

He thinks the bowl ban will lifted next season and he sees no reason why the Penn State job could be one of the most desirable in the country again. He also thinks that it's absolutely possible for Penn State to win a national championship again.
