Pizza Shop Employee Accused Of Stealing $125K From Business

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local pizza shop employee has been charged, after police say he stole more than $125,000 from the store.

Police say over a period of about three years, Franco Asturi stole $126,004 from Mama Lucia's Pizza in Ross Township.

Asturi is accused of processing fraudulent returns through the pizza shop's credit card machine to get the money.

Owner Paul Mancino says he had no idea what was happening until he returned from a vacation to find his account through the credit card company had been frozen and was close to having several utilities shut off.

Police say when Mancino confronted Asturi, Asturi apologized for stealing the money and said that he was having financial trouble and filing for bankruptcy.

Police say at least $46,000 of the stolen money was deposited into Asturi's personal bank account.

Asturi is charged on multiple counts, including theft by deception, receiving stolen property and access device fraud.
