Police Search For Suspect, Motive After Man Shot Multiple Times

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Larimer Monday afternoon.

According to emergency dispatchers, the shooting happened in the 6400-block of Rapidan Way around 1 p.m.

KDKA-TV Marty Griffin reports the victim is 37-year-old Hosea Davis.

Officials say Davis was chased down the street and shot in the back multiple times with what could be an AK-47, all in broad daylight.

"Shot multiple times," said Pittsburgh Police Lt. Kevin Kraus. "We believe he was shot at, at least 16 times, with some type of rifle."

Davis was in the news last year, when he was hailed as a hero for helping and possibly saving the life of a 16-year-old girl attacked by a knife-wielding man at the East Liberty Target.

"I picked a bat up and started beating him in the legs with it," he said in an interview after the incident last year, "and he fell to the ground."

Later, he also went to visit the teen at Children's Hospital.

When asked if he considered his own safety during the incident, he said, "yeah, but she was defenseless on the ground."

Right now, police are looking for any clues in his murder.

"We don't really have a lot of information relating to a motive or suspects at this time," Kraus said. "But we're continuing to interview neighbors and talk to family here the best we can to hopefully gain some more information."
