PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The prolonged cold and repeated bursts of snow are really doing a number on hardware supplies this winter.
With everyone snapping up the necessary winter items, some things are now in short supply.
For Tony Sebastian of South Park, the daily ritual of shoveling and salting his driveway has become just too much.
KDKA’s Paul Martino: “Are you getting tired of this weather?”
Sebastian: “Oh yeah, I’m ready for some sunshine.”
To make matters worse, Sebastian had to scramble today to find some bags of salt.
“Very hard to find,” he said. “Last time Home Depot got a delivery was maybe six weeks ago, and they’re out. Lowe’s was out.”
He finally tracked some down at the Evey Hardware Store. They got a shipment in today, but they’re worried about the rest of the winter.
“Salt’s getting a little scarce,” said Bob Schroeder, of Evey Hardware Store. “We talked with three of our suppliers today and they’re all starting to run a little bit low.”
The problem isn’t because we’ve had a huge blizzard; instead, it’s the nuisance snow.
“It’s the constant one inch,” said Schroeder. “You don’t really need to shovel it. But it’s one inch of snow here and an inch or so here. Everyone’s starting to throw salt down on it. The salt just keeps going.”
