Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette: Bettis Needs To Be Patient

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 was announced Saturday, but former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis was not selected.

93-7 The Fan Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette told Tab Douglas and Stacy Kauffman that there wasn't one negative comment about Bettis.

"It's just the way it is, Tab. People believe (that) others belong ahead of him, it's not like they're voting against Jerome," Bouchette said. Bouchette added that it took Dermontti Dawson a few years to get in to the Hall of Fame.

Bouchette said that he talked to Bettis Saturday night after the vote.

"I said, 'I think you're going to get in one of these days, you've just got to be patient,' and he understands," Bouchette said.

Bouchette told Douglas and Kauffman that he is encouraged about Bettis' chances of being voted in moving forward.

"There was a lot of discussion on Jerome, a lot of good discussion, a lot of good comments. Others chimed in with some good facts of their own," Bouchette said. "I thought it's encouraging for next year and maybe even beyond if he doesn't make it next year."
