Harris, Hurdle Among Those Honored At Dapper Dan Awards

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was a night to remember at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The 78th annual Dapper Dan Dinner and Sports Auction was held Thursday night.

It was a big night for Pittsburgh Steelers great Franco Harris. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was honored with the Dapper Dan Lifetime Achievement Award.

Introduced by friend and former Steelers tackle Joe Greene, Harris talked about his career and how it shaped his life.

He also managed to squeeze in a few light-hearted jabs.

"We have these great receivers like John Stallworth, Louis Lipps, Lynn Swan, and who had the famous catch of them all baby!" said Harris.

Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle was another man of the hour. He was named Sportsman of the Year.

"We're moving forward, we are in the right lane, we're representing," said Hurdle. "We are very thankful for all of you who have stayed in the hunt with us and battled through the hard times because we had a whole lot of fun last summer, and I'm glad you had a whole lot of fun with us."

University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Mark Nordenberg took home the Dr. Freddie Fu Sports Leadership Award.

But the attention wasn't all on the men, Pittsburgh Marathon Director Patrice Matamoros was selected as Sportswoman of the Year.

During her speech, she talked about the hard working team that helps to make the marathon happen.

"You may not know their names, and you may not seek their autographs, but they have a story to tell and they tell it well," she said.
