Police Investigating Fatal North Side Shooting

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed on the North Side Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Richard DiDonato, 66, of Bellevue.

He was found lying on the sidewalk around 8 p.m. in the 1200-block of Woodland Ave in the city's Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood.

He had at least one gunshot wound to his torso, but was able to talk to police and paramedics when they arrived.

Police aren't revealing what DiDonato told them and have not released a motive.

DiDonato was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, where his condition deteriorated. He died hours later.

A witness told our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that DiDonato was shot once in his car, then pulled out of the car and shot again.

Family members said DiDonato's car has not been recovered.

They aren't sure what he was doing on Woodland Avenue and believe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In a note left on the door at DiDonato's home, the victim asked a recent girlfriend to move out.

Family members don't believe she had anything to do with his death.

No arrests have been made.

Family members also said DiDonato has two grown children. One lives in Florida, while the other lives in California. They said he was retired and had been taking care of his elderly father.
