Grapeville Man Charged With Punching, Kicking 6-Year-Old Boy

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A Hempfield Township man is facing charges, accused of beating his girlfriend's 6-year-old son over a bed wetting incident.

Barry Woods, 35, of Grapeville, is in the Westmoreland County Prison on $250,000 bail.

State Police say they arrested Woods at his girlfriend's mobile home where he allegedly beat her 6-year-old son after the boy wet the bed.

A police criminal complaint says the child's injuries included lacerations to his genitals, broken bones to his face and multiple bruises.

Investigators say the boy was punched and kicked.

Police found blood in the bedroom, in the bathroom and inside the tub.

In Grapeville, neighbors are horrified by the allegations.

I'm appalled," said one woman. "I think it's disgusting."

"It's horrible," said another man. "How can anyone do something like that?"

KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti went to the trailer in Grapeville Friday night, but no one answered when he knocked at the front door.

A police criminal complaint alleges that Woods told the boy to say he fell in the shower.

The boy's injuries were so severe he had to have surgery at Children's Hospital. He is now recovering.

Woods has a preliminary hearing scheduled next week.

He is facing charges of felony aggravated assault.
