Eddie Olczyk: U.S. Players Consider Canada As Biggest Rival
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- NBC hockey analyst, former Penguins player & head coach, and 1984 United States Olympian Eddie Olczyk joined "The Fan Morning Show" from Sochi to give his thoughts on this year's Olympics.
Olczyk told the guys that U.S. Olympic hockey players consider Canada to be their greatest rival, because of the amount of hype that the Canadians get.
He thinks that the Russian team just ran out of gas, and was hurt by its stars failing to produce because they don't have a whole lot of depth.
He feels that Dan Bylsma has pushed a lot of the right buttons while coaching the U.S. team. He also points out that the U.S. has a lot of big-time goal scorers, giving them an offense that actually dwarfs Canada's. He thinks the action we've seen in these Olympics is proof positive that having a bigger rink doesn't open up the game.
Olczyk picked the U.S. and Finland to be in the gold medal game, and picked the USA to win the gold medal game in OT.
