PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A young man was killed Friday evening when a dog ran out in front of his ATV and caused him to crash in Greene County

State police say the accident happened just before 10 p.m. along Blockhouse Run Road in New Freeport, Gilmore Township.

The Greene County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 21-year-old Benjamin McConnell of Fairview, W. Va.

According to state police, he was headed north on Blockhouse Run Road when the accident happened.

The coroner’s office reports McConnell was with two other people when the dog ran out in front of them. McConnell hit the dog, causing him to lose control of the ATV.

It flipped and McConnell was thrown from the vehicle, state police said.

The coroner’s office says McConnell died of head injuries.

The other two riders were not hurt.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
