Pastor Claims "Frozen" Indoctrinates Children Into Homosexuality

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – Disney's Frozen is a box office sensation and just recently topped one-billion dollars worldwide. This doesn't mean that some find the movie offensive. Right-wing and outspoken Pastor Kevin Swanson has blasted the movie, claiming it will indoctrinate children into homosexuality.

Founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University, Dr. Robert Thompson joined KDKA Radio's Larry Richert and John Shumway to talk about Swanson's comments.

Is Dr. Thompson surprised by Swanson's comments? Thompson says, "I suppose coming from Kevin Swanson it doesn't surprise me."

This isn't the first time this has happened. In the past people have made claims that shows like "teletubbies" and "Sponge Bob" had hidden agendas.

Thompson says some people spend their time, "looking through the programming for the very young, finding little secret homosexual agenda."

In Dr. Thompson's opinion, the comments made by Swanson "say a lot more about the people making them then they probably do about the movies themselves."

Thompson says that Disney has been at the forefront of the culture of American childhood since, at least the 1930's, and with that kind of cultural power people are going to complain.

Thompson points out that the far right is not the only group that complains about Disney. "Progressive liberals have been complaining about Disney princesses for years." They say it gives off the image that women should, "just sit around waiting for prince charming."

"[Swanson] needs to let it go," says Thompson. "I haven't seen him yet point out [any] specifics." Thompson says he thinks that Pastor Swanson just has it out for Disney.
