Harmony Twp. Secretary Arrested, Accused Of Stealing Nearly $200K

BEAVER COUNTY (KDKA) -- The long-time Harmony Township Secretary in Beaver County is out of a job.

Lyla Lynn Swan, who has held the job for 30 years, was charged by detectives from the Beaver County District Attorney's office with stealing about $190,000 from the township.

Glen Angus, the Chairman of the Harmony Board of Commissioners, says the secretary's job was eliminated.

An interim Township Manager has been named to oversee finances.

Bob Glasser of Harmony reacted to the news, saying, "she's a crook, if she's convicted, she should go to jail."

Harmony Township Police started looking into the alleged financial discrepancies about a year ago, but Police Chief James Essek, told KDKA-TV News he turned the matter over to the DA's office, because of a potential conflict of interest.

District Attorney Anthony Berosh says the investigation is continuing to see where Swan spent the money.
