Group Of Dogs Attack Child In Donora

DONORA (KDKA) -- A small boy was mauled by a group of dogs Wednesday evening in Donora, Washington County.

The unidentified child went to a home in the 600-block of Thompson Avenue.

It's believed he went there to see a friend, and he may have opened the front door, the animals then ran out and the boy was attacked in the front yard.

Roni Scott, who lives across the street from where the incident happened, heard a commotion.

She told KDKA-TV News she went outside with a broom and started swinging to disperse the dogs.

"It was just unbelievable. I just couldn't believe it," said Scott. "I don't know; if I could have took his place, I would have. I mean, I just can't get that picture out of my head. I just wanted to help him, that's all."

Patrolman William Dennison, of the Donora Police Department, was on routine patrol in the neighborhood.

He had to use pepper spray to get the dogs away from the boy. An elderly neighbor also tried to stop the dogs from attacking the boy.

"Whenever I rushed towards the child, they backed off enough for me to get ahold of the child. It wasn't so much getting them off the child as keeping them off the child," said Patrolman Dennison.

The dog's owners were not at home when the incident took place.

The investigation is continuing.

The animals - about eight of them - have been quarantined.
