McCutchen Ready To Accomplish More In 2014

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – Since he came up to the big leagues in 2009, he has become one of the most talented and popular players in baseball.

Andrew McCutchen is the current reigning National League MVP and he says he is excited to start another season and get married. He joined KDKA Radio's Larry Richert and John Shumway to talk about it.

McCutchen has been a star for years. Last year, the entire team was the story when they had their first winning season in over 20 years and earned a spot in the playoffs.

How do they top what they did last year?

"We just take it day by day," McCutchen said. "We expect to do well. We expect to play well. Things won't be a surprise for us because we've been there before. I look forward to us having a really good year."

No matter what success the Bucs had in 2013, they have to start all over again. McCutchen realizes that.

"Let's learn from [last year] and move forward," he said.

McCutchen says a lot of new people will contribute to the team in the 2014 season. While he isn't sure exactly who will make the initial trip up north, he says one player he is excited to see in action is Gregory Polanco.

While winning the Most Valuable Player Award was his biggest accomplishment on the field in 2013, his engagement to his longtime girlfriend on the "Ellen" show was the highlight of the year.

He says it was a nerve racking experience.

"I much rather [would have] played in front of 50,000 people, any day," he said.

So, when is the big day? McCutchen says he isn't telling.

"I'm keeping that a secret. You know how crazy Pittsburgh can get," he said.
