Fred Skrocki Talks About 2007 Schenley Basketball Team

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) – Former Schenley Head Coach Fred Skrocki talked with Chris Mack on the Late Shift Thursday.

Skrocki led the 2007 Schenley squad to a PIAA State Championship. The team is thought to be among the best high school basketball team ever featuring players such as San Antonio Spurs Forward Dejaun Blair, Iowa State star DeAndre Kane, DJ Kennedy, and more.

Skrocki was asked first about DeAndre Kane who has led his ISU team to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Skrocki says of Kane's growth since high school, "the way he's directing that team, I can definitely see that maturity coming out of him."

When asked what it was like coaching so many strong personalities and athletes on one team, Skrocki says, "they all came from the same community and were friends in and out of high school," which Skrocki says really helped.

Strocki was asked why he thinks there are not as many premiere players in the area, to which Strocki replied, "I think its coming back, I think you can see that improvement."
