Fire Damages Westmoreland Co. Commercial Building

LOYALHANNA (KDKA) – It was a busy morning for firefighters, as part of a Westmoreland County business went up in flames.

Now, investigators have the task of figuring out what sparked it.

The fire broke out at the Deon Door Co. on Power Road in Loyalhanna around 2:30 a.m.

"Fire was blowing out through the front window, we had to break down the doors to get in, it was secured," Chief Mark Piantine said.

Once inside the office-area of the business, crews were able to knock down the flames pretty quickly.

However, the damage was extensive.

Piantine said it appears the fire had been burning for quite some time before crews arrived on the scene.

HAZMAT was called in to help clear the building...

"It's a large building. We had to bring in two ventilation trucks - one is from Greensburg, one is from Latrobe - to remove all the smoke and heat out of the building," Piantine said.

The chief said although the fire doesn't appear to be suspicious, nothing can be ruled out, especially considering that earlier in the evening, a nearby utility pole caught on fire and knocked out power in the area.

A fire marshal was called out to determine what exactly sparked the fire.
