Man Found Dead Inside Of Car In Larimer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Authorities are investigating after a man was found shot to death in a car in Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood.

He was found around 8 a.m. in a car on Paulson Avenue and Mayflower Street, across the street from Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.

Officials say he was shot several times in the torso and believe it happened early Friday morning.

The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Leonard Young.

Police say he was found in his girlfriend's car. The white Chevy Malibu's windows had been shot out on the driver's side. It was parked between church vans.

"There were multiple shots fired from outside the car," said Pittsburgh Police Spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

Police say he was likely shot very early in the morning, but 911 wasn't called until hours later.

"We had some contact with people here on the scene who say they first heard gunshots around 3 o'clock this morning," said Toler. "However, the first calls did not come into 911 until around 8 a.m. He was pronounced dead at approximately 8:13 a.m."

People who knew Young say he grew up on Mayflower Street, was well-liked and are shocked to learn of his death.

"It's usually quiet around here. You know, it's a church… it's a high-profile church and it's ironic somebody would do that on the property," said one resident who didn't want to be identified. "It's horrible."

Police have not determined a motive or suspect yet.
