PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – Bucs games have had their share of defining moments in the recent past, but none like what happened at Friday’s game.
In the second of four games against the Brewers, Martin Maldonado literally hit the cover off the ball in the sixth inning.
It’s a term long-used in baseball, but hyperbole became reality Friday night.
As CBS Sports describes it, “Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez scooped up the grounder and, with the cover flapping in the air, fired it over to first.”
However, it fell well short of the bag, giving Maldonado an infield single.
Eventually the Brewers took a win over the Bucs, 5-3, but at least the Brewers left us with a memorable moment.
