Steelers Fans Excited For First Round Of NFL Draft

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It's an exciting time for Pittsburgh sports fans.

The Pirates are a little more than a month into their season and the Penguins need one more win to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Tonight, football returns with the first round of the NFL Draft and the fans have some ideas about which player the Steelers should take.

Thousands of players dream of someday playing in the NFL at a place like Heinz Field. The question is of the 32 players who will be named, which one becomes a Pittsburgh Steeler?

"I will watch. My husband is a big Johnny Manziell fans so he is anxious to see where he goes," Cyndy Taroli said.

Fans certainly have their minds made up about what holes the Steelers should be looking to fill.

"Probably need a wide receiver I would think," Rick Capp said. "Need some help on defense I would think."

"I believe they need an offensive line to protect Ben. You know, he has the tendency to get hurt because he goes that extra yard. You know what I mean, when he is supposed to go down? But, I do believe they need an offensive lineman," Beverly Helwich said.

"I always say to friends of mine a corner -- cornerback there. Second would be a wide receiver for Ben to throw to," Anthony Altieri said.

"You can guess all you want and think about who the Steelers need and who they have to pick, but it is pretty much it's whoever they pick, you welcome them the next day," John D'Abruzzo said.

Taroli knows that when she goes home to Oregon, she will have lots of new Steelers gear to cheer for no matter what the team does tonight.

"It's the tradition and the town. When I come in the fall, you get off that plane and everything in the airport is black and gold and everybody around wears Steelers stuff," she said.

Because of some compensatory picks, the Steelers actually have nine draft picks this year. We'll know in a couple of days which ones will be wearing black and gold.
