New Dentistry Techniques Tackle More Than Just Your Teeth

WEXFORD (KDKA) -- Your dentist appointment -- certainly not the most delightful experience.

In fact, some find it downright dreadful.

But patients of Dr. Alexandra George, in Wexford, actually look forward to their visits.

Dr. George is one of the only neuromuscular dentists in the region.

KDKA's Kym Gable went to her practice to find out how she helps patients, not only with their teeth, but with pain-management and their overall health.

"So, for Pittsburgh, this is pretty new, right?" asked Gable.

"Yeah, pretty different," said Dr. George.

Andrea Phillips, one of Dr. George's patients, says she has seen numerous benefits from her treatments. Andrea suffers from a rare condition called Sjögren's Syndrome, a disease that's led to other health problems. She had no idea her dentist could help her with those issues, too.

"They start talking about migraines I was getting, even the nausea. I had a ton of nausea. They talked about my back being lined up and things and I'm going, 'Wow.' And that was on the first visit," said Phillips.

Dr. George's highly specialized training goes well beyond just fixing teeth. She outlined some of the conditions she can treat in her office.

"Recurrent neck pain, headaches, ringing in the ears, things that people have gone to other places, ear doctors, neurologists and can't really get to the bottom of it," she said. "So, once we start aligning the body, starting with the head, then other things will fall into place."

Dr. George has helped Andrea with her pain and her self-esteem. KDKA was with her when Dr. George fitted her new "Facelift Dentures."

They are dentures specifically sculpted for each patient to reduce discomfort and re-shape the face.

"I couldn't believe it," said Phillips. "And, even having these for just a few hours, I feel so much better."

Dr. George says the dentures can take 10 to 15 years off one's appearance. The new teeth and gums add support to sagging skin, lifting the jawline, changing the shape of the face.

"We are restoring your teeth to a natural height and beauty that is really second to none," she said.

Phillips is thrilled with her new look.

"I thought, this is it, I'm going to have to go without teeth the rest of my life," she said. "I'm going to start crying. It really did save me."

The Facelift Dentures completely replace a patients own teeth. However, Dr. George says she can perform other procedures with crowns, bridges, and veneers to also reshape the face.
