Teen Dies After Hill District Shooting

HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) –Police are investigating after a teenager died as a result of a shooting in the Hill District Wednesday night.

According to police, the shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. at the Bedford Dwellings in the 800-block of Memory Lane.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Earnest Williams. He was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital and died while undergoing surgery.

Before he was rushed away by medics, Chardai Warner, a nurse, ran to Williams' side.

She tried to keep him calm and awake until police and paramedics arrived.

"I ran outside after I immediately heard someone scream and say he got shot," Warner said. "We applied pressure to his side where we saw the two gun shots and we immediately were on the phone with police."

Homicide detectives were canvassing the neighborhood again Thursday morning.

One car, parked close to homes along Memory Lane, had several bullet holes. While she is devastated that the young man passed away, Warner said she's also angry that her family and neighbors were put in harm's way by a reckless gunman.

"It traumatizes me even more to know that I have a family here and that this would happen outside of my own home," she said.

No arrests have been made at this time.
