Vehicle Lands On Roof In Scott Twp. Creek, Driver Killed

SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man died this afternoon when his vehicle crashed and landed upside down in a Scott Township creek.

Investigators cleared the scene at Georges Run Creek just before 6 p.m., hours after the crash.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 900-block of Hope Hollow Road.

Allegheny County Police confirm that the driver died in the crash.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identifies the victim as 35-year-old Christopher Johnson of Scott Township. He was pronounced dead at the scene just before 1:15 p.m.

The vehicle landed on its roof in the shallow creek. For some reason the car went through a fence, knocked over a pole and veered off the small bridge.

A man from a nearby auto body shop jumped in the water to try to rescue him, but it was too late.

"No, no, all the years here, nothing ever happened like this, no," said Helen Fedenko, a neighbor who witnessed the crash. "Bobby jumped down in the water and tried to save him."

The investigation continues into what caused the vehicle to plunge off the bridge.
