New Vietnam Veterans Memorial Dedicated In Lower Burrell

LOWER BURRELL (KDKA) -- There's a new memorial in Westmoreland County that honors the men and women who gave their lives while serving in Vietnam.

The memorial was dedicated Saturday at VFW Post 92 in Lower Burrell.

It honors the more than 100 fallen military members from the Alle-Kiski Valley.

"We proudly stand before them, and among them to say thank you for a job well done," said Joe Grillo, the chaplain, of VFW Post 92.

The dedication ceremony was very emotional for hundreds of veterans, their friends and relatives who attended.

"To be a part of this project has put all of us in the history of this area forever," said Clare Ewing, of the Commander Robert L. Davies Post 868. "When I first saw this monument, tears came for all those who were named and an overwhelming sense of love for my brothers who are now given a well-deserved place of honor in our community."

"I'd like to thank you all again for coming today, especially my Vietnam veterans and the family members of some of the men who are on this wall," said another veteran who attended the ceremony. "It's been a very emotional day for all of us."

They also read a proclamation declaring the day, "Vietnam Veterans Day" in Lower Burrell.
