1 Dead, 1 Injured In Uptown Shooting

UPTOWN (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a one man was killed and another was injured in an Uptown shooting early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened outside of Ficklin's Bar in the 1500-block of Fifth Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

According to the medical examiner, Clayton Brunson, 27, was shot multiple times in the upper body. He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he later died around 2:30 a.m.

Police say the bar where the shooting happened was quite crowded -- with as many as 200 people possibly inside. And at least that many people showed up to mourn Brunson Sunday night.

"He was really big on community engagement, he was a role model for males, both young and old," said Brunson's fiance Taylor Brown. "He was a phenomenal guy."

Brunson worked for group called "Together As One," which works in conjunction with youth places on the North Side to empower young men.

He died as a result of the very violence he tried to stop.

Police say some sort of altercation happened that led to the shooting, but it's unclear what happened.

Brunson also leaves behind a daughter.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the foot and was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital. He was treated and released.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (412)-323-7161.
