PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – People show support for their loved ones battling cancer in many different ways.

One teacher in Butler County wanted to show his students how his sister’s battle has touched his life.

Joseph Koromaus wants to show everyone that bald is beautiful.

The social studies teacher at Seneca Valley Middle School agreed to shave his head to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Every dollar donated by the kids earned them a ticket.

The person with the winning ticket got to shave their teacher’s head.

“Through the process, she was going through chemotherapy and she had lost all her hair. It kind of touched me a lot and I wanted to show some kind of support for her. So, I decided I was going to shave my head in a show of support,” Koromaus said.

His sister, Maggie, is currently undergoing cancer treatment and he decided this was the perfect way to show the kids how he supports those battling the disease.

“We can’t really know what it is like to know what it’s like to have cancer. So, any way you can show that you are one their side, it’s good that you can kind of reach out to that community,” Tyler Montier said.

For the American Cancer Society, it adds to the money they raise throughout the year in Butler County.

“We have had students who make a donation as small as a dime and understand that every little bit can make a difference in the life of a cancer patient or a cancer family going through cancer treatment,” Amy Fuller with the American Cancer Society said.

For Koromaus, it’s about supporting his sister.

“I did it all for her,” Koromaus said.
