Pirates AAA Manager On Polanco: "He's Really Where He Needs To Be"

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Nobody has seen more of what Gregory Polanco can do than Indianapolis Indians Manager Dean Treanor, and he joined Starkey and Mueller on The FAN to talk about what Pirates fans can expect from the team's top prospect.

We asked Treanor what separates Polanco from other players and he wasted no time telling us about his bat.

"It's the sound of the ball off the bat, it's different," Treanor said.  "I think that's the thing that really stands out is the different sound of that ball off the bat and how impressive that is."

Treanor also should with us how he told Polanco that he was finally getting called-up to the majors.

"I usually do it in my office, I just felt that his relationship with his teammates and how good that is, just knowing him, I thought it would be best to do it in front of the team," Treanor told us. "I called a meeting and told him he was going up. The clubhouse just erupted. He didn't know what to do, didn't know what to say. It was a big celebration with his teammates and you couldn't have scripted it any better. It just shows how much they like him, he likes them, and everybody is pulling for this guy. It was pretty fun."

Listen to the audio link below to hear about how ready Polanco is for the majors, how he adjusted to hitting lead off, what the transition was like from playing center field to right field and how he handled the pressure of waiting for the call-up to finally come.
