Ed Bouchette: Noll Enjoyed Teaching The Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Fan Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined Bob Pompeani Saturday to remember Chuck Noll.

Bouchette said that Noll respected the reporters covering the team.

"He allowed us to work. He respected what we did. His practices were open, we were allowed to go talk to anybody, I could go walk down the hallway and knock on the door of one of his assistant coaches," Bouchette said.

Bouchette would go to dinner with members of the Steelers organization at NFL meetings, and fondly recalled conversations that weren't about football.

"I would go out to dinner with him at the NFL meetings," Bouchette said. "Oftentimes, I found myself across the table from him and just had delightful conversations, none of which was about football."

Bouchette recalled Noll enjoyed teaching the game to players who weren't locks to make the roster.

"He loved these free agents, late-round draft picks, he loved working with them and trying to mold them into something. I think maybe that's why so many of those guys made it with the Steelers," Bouchette said.
