Man In Car Crushed In Scaffolding Collapse Says He Was Saved By God

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two construction workers were injured and two cars were damaged this afternoon during a scaffolding collapse at a hotel that's under construction in East Liberty.

The electronic type scaffolding is more like a lift. it collapsed onto two cars on North Highland Avenue.

The two workers fell down to the ground with the scaffolding at the Hotel Indigo construction site.

Max Dondcien had just parked his Volvo on the street when the collapse happened.

His car was crushed, but he escaped with just a scratch. He says God saved his life in the close call.

"It's God who saved me," Dondcien said. "It was crushed to death. Did you see the car? You see the scaffold on top of the car. There is no way for me to be alive."

Jimmy Grote was driving his Volkswagen by the scene when he saw the lift and the workers come tumbling down. His vehicle was hit by the collapsing debris, too.

"It was scary, but scarier watching the construction workers up on the scaffolding sliding backwards and falling, and then landing on him. That was pretty scary," said Grote, of Fox Chapel.

He was not hurt.

Both workers who were injured were taken to the hospital. One reportedly suffered a broken neck and the other had a broken arm and a bump to the head.

Highland Avenue was closed while investigators tried to determine what caused the scaffolding to collapse.
