Hays Eaglet Takes Tumble, Appears To Be OK

HAYS (KDKA) - It was a rough weekend for one of the eaglets at the nest in Hays.

One of the babies took a bit of a tumble on Saturday.

It was hopping from branch to branch when it hit its wing and fell.

The eaglet was spotted later in a tree near the nest.

One of the young eagles tested out its wings Friday and left the nest.

The other two could be seen in the nest or "branching" — a term used by birders to describe when the birds explore the outer edges of the nest or nearby branches.

Game Commission officials estimated early on that the eagles would likely leave the nest in July. So far their estimations have been pretty accurate.
