Testimony Begins In Trial Over Teacher's Strangulation Death

WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) – A man accused of strangling and killing his wife was in court Monday arguing that he did not mean to kill her.

David Stahl is accused of killing his wife, Rebecca, two years ago.

Stahl and his wife lived in Hempfield Township. Rebecca was a teacher at Derry Area Middle School.

Stahl is charged with strangling his wife after arguing about his drinking. Police say her body was found near Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, wrapped up in plastic and blankets.

The defense argued Monday that the jury consider third degree murder, or involuntary manslaughter.

However, the prosecution claims that the way Rebecca's body was found shows that Stahl went to through great lengths to conceal the crime.

The defense says it was a result of him panicking.

Last week, an all-female jury was selected to hear the case.

Rebecca Stahl's family has also filed a lawsuit against the bar that allegedly served Stahl on the night of her murder.
