Bloomfield Woman Stable After Being Attacked By Her Own Dog

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A woman is in the hospital after she was viciously attacked by her own dog in Bloomfield.

Police and animal control officers were called around 6:20 p.m. to the home on Main Street where they found the 52-year-old victim covered in blood.

According to police, the woman's English bulldog is believed to have turned on her.

She was bitten several times on her body, arms and legs.

"Animal control was able to enter the house and counter the dog, an English bulldog, in the backyard and they were able to secure it with their animal control devices," said Officer O'Connor, of Pittsburgh Police. "They have taken it away along with three other dogs that were in the home, also English bulldogs."

He says it was a "spontaneous attack upon the female homeowner."

Police say the dogs will be tested for rabies.

The woman is listed in stable condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
