Kennedy Twp. Fatal Shooting Suspect In Custody

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man is in custody in connection with a shooting that left a Kennedy Township man dead last month.

According to police, an arrest warrant was issued for Michael Anthony Lapaglia. He is now in custody at the Allegheny County Police headquarters.

Last month, John Parkes, 59, was found dead on Poplar Street. Parkes was reportedly shot in the head.

Police said his fiance had left their home in Kennedy Township on July 21. When she returned about four hours later, she found him wounded on the living room floor. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.

Lapaglia is the 22-year-old nephew of his fiance.

At the time of the murder, police were told about an earlier burglary and that Lapaglia was responsible. Police checked out "Cashing your Collectibles," a pawn shop near Lapaglia's home and learned a male had already tried to sell jewelry there. Jewelry like a horseshoe-shaped diamond ring and a gold football pendant missing from the Parkes' home.

Days later, on Aug. 4, Pittsburgh Police told county officers about a jewelry and coin transaction at another store, the Pittsburgh Gold Store on Liberty Avenue.

This time the store had Lapaglia on security video cashing in the same items as before, only now the jewelry had been damaged but was still identifiable.
