ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A sinkhole is causing major concerns after opening up and swallowing a car near McKnight Road in Ross Township.

The sinkhole opened up in the parking lot of the Hollywood Tans.

Officials estimate the length of the sinkhole at 50-feet long, and 20-feet wide.

Emergency crews are on the scene and say the driver of the car was rescued before car was swallowed up by the sinkhole.

The car’s owner, Natalie Huddleston, talked with KDKA’s Ralph Iannotti and told him, “I got in the car, I backed up, I felt a thunk, and all of a sudden I was tilted and I felt movement, I was swaying, I kept drifting back and realized I was stuck in this hole.”

Huddleston says she called the tanning bed owner to come out and help, and she was able to escape through the passenger window.

“I’m in shock, this is not happening, my car is gone, I’m stuck here, how am I going to get out of work.”

Huddleston’s 2002 Saturn was pulled from the sinkhole late Tuesday night.

Work crews say a 48-60 inch storm drain runoff pipe collapsed during heavy rains, causing the sinkhole.

Crews were forced to shut down part of McKnight Road.

There are no reports of injuries.

Another car parked near Huddleston’s was towed away.
