Woman Convicted Of Shooting Husband, Told Him To Close Eyes For "Surprise"

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A woman has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for shooting her husband in their western Pennsylvania home, which the victim told police occurred after the defendant told him to close his eyes for a "surprise."

The defendant, 28-year-old Latasha Stapp, told police she shot her husband after he pulled her hair and slapped her during a fight at their South Strabane Township home in March 2013.

The disputed events became moot when Stapp pleaded guilty Aug. 7 to attempted homicide in the shooting of her husband, Tyler Stapp.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter says Latasha Stapp was sentenced Monday by a Washington County judge.

Tyler Stapp worked in the gas-drilling industry. His wife had lived in Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas before moving to southwestern Pennsylvania to join her husband shortly before the shooting.
